Riding Arena Coming
The Leadership Northern Kentucky class of 2006 has adopted Campbell Lodge Boys' Home for their class project. Specifically, they will be working hard through the spring and summer to plan, fund, and build the first phase of an indoor riding arena on campus for our new Equine Assisted Counseling (EAC) program.
The EAC program is designed to be a multi-dimensional, interactive forum for experiential therapy. The addition of EAC to our residential program will ultimately enhance our residents’ ability to interact appropriately with peers and family; to express themselves, thus decreasing depressive tendencies; to effectively resolve problems and conflicts; to improve academically; and to increase their sense of self-worth and self-confidence.
Utilizing horses in treatment minimizes the stigma of traditional talk therapy and creates a non-threatening environment for adolescents to openly explore more alternative, effective means of addressing their behaviors and feelings. In essence, the horse becomes a metaphor to address a variety of mental health issues.
If you are interested in donating your time, talent, or treasure toward the construction of the riding arena, please contact the Home at 859-781-1214 x114.
Leadership Northern Kentucky is a program of the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce and is designed to meet our community’s need for the active participation of informed and dedicated community leaders. For more information about Leadership Northern Kentucky, visit http://www.nkyleadership.com.
