CLBH to Break Ground for Equine Center

Campbell Lodge Boys' Home will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for its new equine center on Wednesday, July 18, at our Cold Spring campus. There will be a social hour from 11am-12noon with a brief program to follow. A light lunch and beverages will be provided. The event is free and open to the public. For directions, follow the directions link on the website’s homepage.

"We are ecstatic about breaking ground on a state of the art equine center” said Mike Schroth, the Home’s Executive Director. “Having our own facility will allow us to fully implement our Equine-Assisted Counseling program year-round regardless of weather. It also gives us the option of offering the program to other kids in the community in the future."

The equine center project began when the Leadership Northern Kentucky Class of 2006 selected it for their class project in January 2006. The class committed to a fundraising goal of $35,000 for Phase I and ended up raising over $48,000 with lead gifts from Toyota and the Scripps Howard Foundation.

Class president Ted Zalla said, “The Leadership Northern Kentucky Class of 2006 is honored to have had the opportunity to assist in the equine center’s creation. It is remarkable that the focused energy and talents of the class, coupled with the compelling vision of an outstanding agency, have been able to achieve so much in such a short period of time.”

To date, $409,457 has been raised. Major donors so far include the H.B., E.W. and F.R. Luther Charitable Foundation, Fifth Third Bank and Narley L. Haley, Co-Trustees; the Josephine Schell Russell Charitable Trust, PNC Bank, Trustee; Jacob G. Schmidlapp Trusts, Fifth Third Bank, Trustee; the Campbell Lodge Boys' Home Foundation; Toyota Engineering & Manufacturing North America, Inc.; and two anonymous donors.
