Treatment planning at Campbell Lodge

Hours of Operation
Campbell Lodge Boys’ Home is a five-day residential treatment program. Residents arrive at the Lodge between 8:00 and 9:00 p.m. on Sunday evening, live on campus through the week, and return home with their families on Friday afternoons between 3:00 and 4:30 p.m.. Access to supportive family service is offered on an as needed basis throughout the week. The clinical staff can flexibly schedule families for early morning, afternoon, or evening appointments. Drop off and pick up times are also convenient opportunities for families to give and receive feedback to Campbell Lodge staff.

Overview of the Residential Treatment Program
Campbell Lodge Boys’ Home provides a clinically driven, residential treatment program for young men aged ten to eighteen years old. The program addresses delays, disturbances and difficulties in how a resident functions across domains (e.g., school, community, and family) through the use of supervised and structured activities, planned services and extensive resident-staff interaction.

Program components include facilitating student enrollment in Campbell County Schools (if not already enrolled there), individual assessment and treatment, family assessment and counseling, structured group counseling, case management, case consultation to the school system, and ongoing structure, supervision, and behavior management.

Staffing is multidisciplinary and reflects the model of a team approach to treatment and care plan development and implementation. Additional services may be customized and added based on need. Moreover, if the need presents, the program will engage and assist the family in pursuing additional support and service provision outside of the program (e.g., psychiatric care, medication assessment and/or management, neurological work, and substance abuse services). The program will work to insure that these adjunctive services are blended with the services that are offered within the program.

Specific Services Offered
Each resident has a treatment plan (plan of care) that is developed and customized according to the unique circumstances and needs they have. Treatment assessment and planning is a process that requires the active participation of the resident’s family. In addition, if other professionals are involved in a resident’s case (e.g., Social Services, Juvenile Court, physician, etc.), those professionals are also engaged in the treatment planning process so that a more comprehensive, community-based plan can be developed which outlines every discipline’s role in the case.

The treatment plan at Campbell Lodge is the document that drives which services and interventions are utilized, and the frequency, duration, and intensity of those services and interventions. In keeping, service provision is customized to address the individual needs of each resident and their respective families. Clinical services in the program, dependant upon a resident’s needs, may include group therapy, individual therapy, and family work (either structured family therapy or some form of collaborative, therapeutic family contact). The residential program and level system set forth many of the behavior management techniques, procedures, and protocol for the program’s inherent structure. Ongoing behavioral interventions such as Life Space Interviewing, supportive counseling, adaptive skill teaching, therapeutic crisis intervention, positive feedback and reinforcement of positive behaviors are methods used by the team.

Review meetings are held monthly for each resident. This service is designed to ensure that the program, resident, and family are kept abreast of the resident’s movement through not only program objectives, but also specifically how the resident is responding to his plan of care. Treatment goals for residents are addressed individually to ensure that they are consistent with a resident’s current needs. Review meetings also provide an opportunity for the program to assess how capably it is serving the resident and the family.

Treatment Planning
Once a young man is admitted for placement at Campbell Lodge the Clinical Team will convene and develop a preliminary treatment plan or plan of care within five hours of admission, but more often than not, this will be accomplished at the time of admission determination. The initial treatment plan includes:

  • Diagnostic impression or synopsis of presenting problem(s)
  • A brief description of the resident’s problems, conditions, needs, and strengths
  • Objectives relating to the resident’s problems, conditions and needs
  • The modalities of interventions, therapies, and staff actions (responsibilities) which will be implemented to accomplish these objectives
  • A comprehensive treatment plan will be developed within twenty-one days of admission. The comprehensive treatment plan will include the components referenced above (on the plan required within five hours) as well as:
  • Clearly stated specific interventions, therapies and staff actions which will be implemented to address each of the goals and objectives
  • Identification of the staff members who will provide the specified services, experiences and therapies
  • Documentation of participation by the resident and his family or guardian
  • The date of the next treatment plan review
