General
Standards for Admission
Campbell Lodge Boys’ Home has a non-discrimination
policy that dictates that no child or his family or guardian will be discriminated
against in admission to, or treatment by, Campbell Lodge Boys’ Home
on the basis of race, creed, color, handicap or disability, religion, or
national origin.
No child (his family/guardian) will be denied admission
or access to service solely on the basis of HIV infection or AIDS-related
complex. This policy does not, however, preclude the grouping of residents
on a homogeneous basis when therapeutic goals indicate the same, and appropriate
programs are otherwise available.
Specific Criteria for Admission
Admission will be made to youth that meet the
following specific criteria:
• Social Adaptation and Functioning
A child or youth will be considered for admission if there is identifiable
and documented need that relates to mild to moderate degrees of emotional
and behavioral disturbance which are currently (and have in the past)
negatively affecting his school, community and family functioning. Such
issues, as well as prior intervention attempts, are well documented.
• Age
Application for service and admission is currently restricted to male
youth between the ages of twelve and eighteen years old.
• Intellectual Functioning
Normal intellectual functioning and capacity is indicated in order to
achieve maximum benefit from participation in the therapeutic components
of the program.
• Parental Consent and Participation
The parents or legal guardian’s willingness to participate in the
treatment process is necessary and carefully evaluated. A family systems
approach is the cornerstone of the therapy approach.
• Program Capacity
The ability of the program to meet the unique needs of each resident,
and to further maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for all those
in residential service shall be a consideration in the evaluation of each
child or adolescent referred to the program.
• Care Giver Resources
Adequate family (or caregiver) and/or community support and resources
to remain in the community and to attend on a regular basis so as to benefit
from the services that are provided.
• Space Considerations
Availability of space at the appropriate age and functioning level of
the child or adolescent (in the same cottage with similarly aged and functioning
peers) is a consideration of the admission process.
• School Placement
Campbell Lodge must be able to secure registration into the Campbell County
school system. This requirement is in effect whether the prospective resident
is a regular or special education student.
